“We all die. The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will,” once said by Chuck Palahniuk now used as a quote to live by for Leopoldo Angulo who goes by Leo . From Drama to French to Acadec Club, he is doing his best to take what he can from his high school experience. Born and raised in Salinas, California on November 26th, Leo Angulo has been unique from the start.
Big dreams are what he is aiming for to put it bluntly. From directing a movie to winning an Academy Award, Angulo has plans that will last him a lifetime and truly leave a footprint on the world. When he is famous he plans on it being for a film or a book. A backup plan is something he does not have, “I plan on getting it done, and as long as I have that goal in mind, I won’t stop until I accomplish it. My movie/book may not be successful but as long as I finish it, I will consider myself successful.” Angulo has halfway accomplished fame by recently winning first place at Kofa High School’s 3rd Annual Film Festival. He plans on stepping aside from dramatic films and will aim for a comedic one next year.
One thing people may not know about him is how good he is in math. He sees it as a good thing considering the fact that it makes life slightly easier. Currently he is enrolled in Pre-Calculus and plans on taking AP Calculus his senior year. Pursuing a math career has crossed his mind but compared to the movie industry it’s just too boring.
One place you can almost always find him is none other than Ms.Olsen’s classroom. He loves drama, as in the production and performance class offered at Kofa High School. Towards the end of his sophomore year she became his role model. “I spend so much time in her office just talking to her and asking for advice. I go to her because she seems to be the most grounded and self-assured person I know.” He has grown closer to her not just through the class but from the Film and Drama Club, four of the plays, and one musical presented at the school. Between being in Drama, French, and the academic club, time management is incredibly important to him. He plans on becoming the president for drama club for next year, and just recently he got elected as president for French club. As of now he has not fully decided on running as president for academic club. Although this may be a little hectic, it helps prepare him for the busy future he plans on having.
So what makes Leo, well Leo? For one he is a very emotional person. “I react much more strongly to certain things than other people. I care about things a lot more than a regular teenager does.” He is also never satisfied because to him if you are satisfied you are just settling. He rather improve on things to continue to make things better. Since elementary school, Angulo has always strived to become successful. When he did succeed he kept aiming to do better than before. He does not want to be just another average joe who walked the face of the Earth. “I also believe that if a person doesn’t leave behind something immortal, that there’s no real proof that that person lived (so to speak.)” One thing that does scare him is the idea of not being able to do anything with his potential. He is scared of death and the concept of mortality. After high school he wants to attend Columbia University in New York then live in France for one simple reason, to “live.” He wants to submerge himself in a whole new culture and to experience life outside of the United States.
From after school plays, AP classes, and just the life he is living, Leo Angulo is just another 17 year old with big plans. For him going above and beyond is just right. He is not perfect but with enough will and determination he plans on accomplishing a lot. Just being another lifeless body in 100 years is not an option for him, rather he will leave behind a name and a legacy.
