Ms. Nicola Olsen is not only Kofa’s drama teacher but a cook and adventurer.  One way to describe herself is determined. Olsen has achieved every goal she has set for herself since high school.  “Fake it ‘till you make it” is the quote Olsen has lived by.  Her inspiration has been her mother for as long as she can remember. “She is probably the most amazing person I know,” said Olsen.  “I have had such a wonderful, exciting life.  I have done so many things that I wanted to do as a kid.  In high school I made a list of things I wanted to accomplish in my life.  Most of the stuff is checked off.  I find I am having to add things to my list.”

Olsen has been involved with theatre since she was just a kid, “I used to put on plays with my sister and her friends on my front porch and invite the neighbors,” said Olsen.  Her favorite genre of plays is children’s theatre.  The reason why she got into theatre is because she likes to be other people and learn about how others experience the world.  Before every play, her ritual is reciting a chant and talking.  Her plan was to become a director, not a drama teacher but she says, “It is the perfect job for me! I love it!”  Ms. Olsen doesn’t have family living in Yuma to accompany her, so she has her friends who are just like family.  From her hometown she misses the mountains, snow, and most importantly her parents.

In high school Olsen was known as the kid that anyone could sit by if they needed a friend.  She participated in softball, played center and left field.  Her biggest fear is that spooky, long, monster arms will come out from under her bed and grab her by the feet before she can get under the covers.  A simple sincere show of affection makes her day, and mean people are her pet peeve “they are super lame” .  In about ten years she wishes to be “older”, hopefully still with all of her teeth and blonde hair.  One of the craziest things that has happened to her was being hit in the face by a crazy Spaniard who was high on drugs while she was in Spain.  Another was falling all the way down the stairs in the middle of a play performance. “It was epic!”

Ms. Olsen loves to cook, bike ride, read, garden, and hike. “I can bake a pretty mean pie and people love my wings and veggies,” and “I devour books!”.  She would like to be remembered as the person that made people’s lives better by just being around. She likes all types of music, but rap is a little too violent for her. Broadway music is her favorite.  Her greatest achievements were getting her Masters Degree in Chicago because of the level of difficulty and going on a Safari in Africa. That was something she had wished to do before she died. “I even have pictures to prove it.  Close pictures, of cool animals!”  She even wishes to be Jane Goodall so she can live in the wild with the animals!

One day she will visit Antarctica and hike Mt. Kilimanjaro in Kenya, Africa.  She will climb walls like Spiderman, and create weapons like the Green Lantern.  But for now she will keep doing what she does best, being a drama teacher at Kofa High School.
