Ryan Thornburg and Greg Hazen are probably two of the best duos at Kofa that nobody knows about. The two have been playing tennis together for the past two seasons and have compiled a plethora of wins. Recently, the duo took home the championship at the Antelope Tournament defeating San Luis. When asked how he performed Hazen replied, “My shots were going in, that’s all I needed to do.”
After playing for so long the two players have changed the way they play a lot. Thornburg was quoted as saying “I think we both have gotten way better. Greg used to not hustle at all, but now he does a lot.” Hazen commented saying, “Yeah, you have to be good at doing a lot of different things, you have to diversify.” The two talents compliment each other quite well. Thornburg seems to be the more talented player at the net, with Hazen being a great player in the back. The wonderful thing about the two players is that they both remain cool and collective throughout the match, always making sure the other stays calm. These two young men are like brothers on the court and constantly are saying things to pep each others spirits.
As good as the two are, racking up nine wins; they duo still admit that Cibola is their biggest competition. Both Hazen and Thornburg revealed that Albert Castro and Luis Franco were the doubles team standing in their way the best in region. Even though the boys have secured a spot in the state playoffs, they would love to take region. With a few games left the duo has a good chance of taking region. Hopefully the two years of chemistry building and talent the boys possess will help them persevere towards their goal.
